A delegation of the National Anti-Money Laundering Committee (NAMLC), headed by Mr. Abdulrahim Mohamed Al Awadi, Executive Director, Head of Anti-Money Laundering and Suspicious Cases Unit (AMLSCU) at the Central Bank of the UAE, on a visit to Rome, Italy, held a trilateral meeting on 19/06/2012 with the representatives of the US and Russian delegation attending the 3rd Plenary meeting of FATF XXIII from 18 to 22 June 2012.
The trilateral meeting was held at the margins of the FATF XXIII Plenary in Ergife Palace Hotel, Rome, Italy and also attended by other members of the NAMLC delegation representing Dubai Police General Headquarters, General Directorate of State Security in Dubai, State Security in Abu Dhabi and Federal Customs Authority.
At the above mentioned meeting the NAMLC Delegation highlighted the workshops and trainings conducted jointly with Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN)- FIU of USA and others on AML/CFT for all stakeholders including on capacity building for the South East Asian Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs), which reflected UAE's commitment to international cooperation on matters of global concern. Furthermore, enhancement of cooperation and coordination between the concerned authorities in the UAE and their counterparts in the USA and Russia in the area of combating money laundering, terrorist financing and other economic and financial crimes were discussed, as follows: - Establishing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) for the purpose of exchange of financial information and training etc.
- Feedback on the level of cooperation between the Financial Intelligence Units in the respective countries.
- Formation of a trilateral Committee to exchange information on suspected illicit financial flows which may occur between UAE and USA or UAE and the Russian Federation.
- The terms of reference and mandate of the above committee.
- Formulation of a common strategy in line with the memorandum submitted by the US and Russian Authorities.
- Other relevant business.
The meeting reflected the determination of United Arab Emirates, United States and the Russian Federation to enhance and consolidate cooperation among the three countries and with the international community on matters related to combating money laundering, terrorist financing and related economic and financial crimes.
